Women Who Dare to Dream 8 - Kristy from The Imperfect Mum

Today I want to introduce you to one of the first people I connected to when I started my own blogging journey - Kristy from The Imperfect Mum.

She is one of the most caring and thoughtful souls I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and her gorgeous giggle and enthusiasm for life is just so infectious. The fact that The Imperfect Mum Community is so large is a testament to the size of Kristy's heart and her passion for personal wellbeing for her fellow sisters.

First all we lost our first beautiful baby Titan who was born prematurely (born and died a half an hour later), and then with both of my subsequent pregnancies being high risk, I spent a lot of time in and out of hospital.

The effects of our deep loss and the stress of the high risk pregnancies did change me as a person and I believe it was a pivotal point in my life.

I started to look beyond myself, beyond my journey as a Mother.  I would look into the eyes of others, and I would feel their pain, their sense of isolation.

I think the thing that I think about most often is the fact that I as a young mother had such a strong network of family and friends surrounding me.  I would often wonder about the other mothers whom did not?

What does this isolation mean for them?

What does it mean for their children?

I wanted to create a place they could go to.  A place where they could feel safe, and a place they trusted.

And so in June 2011,The Imperfect Mum was born.

I knew I needed to create a culture and creating a culture takes a whole lot of time, so I gave myself 12 months.

I also knew it would be hard, however I never anticipated just how hard it could be.  There was obviously such a need, that when the gates ‘opened’ a huge flurry of women followed.

As a society we are bombarded with images of this unrealistic picture of what motherhood should be.  It’s this unattainable picture that I think a lot of women strive for.  I wanted to break down that image.

That ‘image’ has a lot to answer for.

I personally believe that it can be a trigger for some Post Natal Depression and Child Abuse cases, due to the fact that unfortunately in our society not all people have a good network round them.

Our 'old style" village no longer exists so I wanted to create a space where people could feel safe to ask all sorts of questions - Judgement free.

We have all been in situations in our lives we are not proud of or may not want to share with anyone for fear of being judged and The Imperfect Mum is especially designed for that very reason.

As they say "you cannot know someone or judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes"

It is a place where all women are accepted and encouraged to be the best they could possibly be -Judgement Free.

The behaviour within the ‘sisterhood’ can contribute positively to creating a beautiful and harmonious community in which women can be inspired.

Creating this sisterhood has changed my life.

The feeling I get knowing I am making a difference in thousands of families makes me so proud and so fulfilled.

If you have a dream, follow it.  Don’t let the past failures dictate your future.

There have been plenty of things I have failed at, but I believe those failures have been building blocks to my success.

If you have a dream take a hold of it and listen to your inner voice and DO IT!

Lots of love to you!
